By Dr. Daniel Rocha DN LMT CPT CNS

Neuropathy, or peripheral neuropathy, is a condition resulting from damage to the peripheral nerves, which can lead to symptoms such as pain, tingling, numbness, and weakness, particularly in the hands and feet. The condition can arise from various causes, including diabetes, infections, autoimmune diseases, exposure to toxins, and certain medications.

These are supplements used to manage neuropathy symptoms and support nerve health:

1. Alpha-lipoic acid: An antioxidant that may help reduce symptoms of diabetic neuropathy.

2. Vitamin B12: Essential for nerve health; deficiency can lead to neuropathy. I recommend the injection form which can be prescribed by your PCP.

3. Vitamin B1 (Thiamine): Improve nerve function and reduce pain.

4. Vitamin B6: Important for nerve function; however, excessive amounts can lead to nerve damage. Stick with the RDA-recommended dosage of 1.3mg daily

5. Acetyl-L-Carnitine: An amino acid that alleviates neuropathic pain. It is used by those with high blood sugar to help with cholesterol as well as nerve pain, such as tingling in their hands and feet. Others have used it to help stop cell damage. It improves appetite and increases energy levels.

6. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Found in fish oil, these can reduce inflammation and promote nerve health.

7. Curcumin: The active compound in turmeric, known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

8. N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC): An antioxidant that protects nerves. Check out my article on NAC via the SyRoc Lifestyle website.

9. Magnesium: Important for nerve function; deficiency may contribute to neuropathy. The glycinate form at 200mg to 500mg nightly is my recommendation.

10. Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA): Has been found to have neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant properties and reduce pain. It can bind two cells in the body to reduce pain and inflammation. This can often be beneficial for chronic disorders.

Always consult with a healthcare provider before starting any supplements, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking medications. Treatment typically focuses on managing symptoms and addressing the underlying cause of the nerve damage. A Naprapathic treatment can align the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, reducing and managing symptoms. Schedule a treatment today.

All treatments are completed at SyRoc CBM, located at 400 Gold Ave SW STE 130 in downtown Albuquerque, NM
